Education Policy Analysis

This book reports on a five-year longitudinal study of the policy relating to the introduction of Liberal Studies, which was developed as an interdisciplinary curriculum in the New Senior Secondary (NSS) academic structure in post-colonial Hong Kong. It also examines the implementation of Moral and National Education, which has become one of the most recent controversial issues in Hong Kong's education policy. Adopting a cross-subject perspective, it concludes by illustrating the roles of Liberal Studies and Moral and National Education in strengthening multi-disciplinary learning and citizenship education in the NSS academic structure. Dennis FUNG is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He has been the principal investigator in many research projects and has published articles in prestigious journals including the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Cambridge Journal of Education, and the International Journal of Educational Research. He completed his undergraduate and post-graduate education at HKU and received his MPhil and PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge.
Wai-mei LUI is the Project Manager of 'The Influence of Liberal Studies on Students' Participation in Socio-political Activities: The Case of the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong,' a research initiative exploring the relationship between Liberal Studies and political development in Hong Kong. She joined the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Education in 2015 and has since then participated in the publication of local civic education research.
